  In December of 1964, the four-year-old National League Houston Colt 45s baseball team changed their name to the Houston Astros. The team included rookie Joe Morgan, and the following April the Astros opened the Astrodome, the world's first indoor professional sports venue.

Police meeting. Riordan busy at Dawson School and Hale went out with his son.

H. Gowell calls re: an oil drum being smashed down by the railroad crossing and some is on the road.

9.15 a.m.
Phil Ham calls re: assisting an old lady who fell by No. 181 Shrewsbury St. and he assisted her up to the front door.

Don Maynard Jr. calls re: loss of his Golden Retriever , No. 1161 Male. Both ears are tatooed. One ear DBM and other ear. Is 8 months old.
9.00 a.m.
Mrs. Sundin of Maple St. calls re: her dog has been in heat and a brown and white short hair dog stil insists on hanging around.

9.05 a.m.
Buddys Beauty Parlor operator calls re: stray dog, German Shepherd, male puppy, 6 months old, hanging around.
10.30 a.m.
Ralph Oberg in re: locating his gray blanket and a piece of canvas 8X12. Called him back. I will talk to Hammond re: same.
6.05 p.m.
John Petterson, 20 Harold St. calls re: phone call from Alexander Cameron of Rutland 886-4562 about his son Jonathan made his mother tie him up and then he tied her up. Has a 22 cal. rifle and the family car. I called Chief Collins and later Patterson called me that the boy was at home. I sent down Hale, Oliver, and Hammond and the boy came to the station with them. I called Chief Collins and soon the State Police Sgt. called me. Dadeo and Ciula came and took him for the more serious charge of Assault with a dangerous weapon, (in Rutland). This boy went two years ago to see a psychiatrist, Dr. Roy Parity and in fact had apparently had an appointment with Dr. Vibber, this afternoon.

Fairbrook called re: house break last night. Front door monkeyed with.

Selectmen met to-night. Submitted two revolver permits. Bill Hale and Thos. J. Doyle, Birchwood Road. Drew two jurors plus one for the Grand Jury. Jan. 4th. Vitte J. Krapas, 16 Fsirchild Drive, 44, welder. Drawn for regular jury duty was Roderick McColl, 66 Kendall Road, 44 years old, Treasurer at the Wor. Mechanics Savings Bank and Louis J. Galgani, 105 Parker Ave. 49, Produce Dept. Head for the A&P in Shrewsbury.
   
Wednesday, December 9th, 1964
12.45 a.m.

Hammond calls re: finding suspicious car at Zottolis and the operator took off and he is chasing same on Shrewsbury St. One man in car and other is at Zottolis Garage. I called Jas.Oliver and Dick Welsh to assist. Hammondlater called back that he had aprehended Fant, Jr. and they later found the other fellow. They had attempted to steal a battery out of a car at Zottolies. They locked up both at Worcester.
ARREST: John Fant, d.o.b. 5-22-45. Attempt Larceny, 6 months.
Failing to stop for a police officer in uniform $25.00-----
Driving so as to endanger 6 months.
Driving after suspension of license 6 months.

ARREST: Ronald A. Blanchette, d.o.b. 7-15-47 -- 2 Goodness St. Webster, Allowing an improper person to operate $20.00
Attempted Larceny - $30.00

Mr. James M. Arnold 13 Somerset Lane in re: dog owned by Fred Curtis tips over his garbage pail. Suggested he get one of those cement ones that you leave in the ground and put a pail inside of same.
 
Thursday, December 10th, 1964
11.25 a.m.
Bill Megarry calls re: his brother is drunk at his fathers house on Doyle Road and he wants him taken in to jail. Says that he is sick and not able to go over there. I got Jas. Oliver to go with me and onour arrival we found Mr. & Mrs. Megarry Sr. there in the kitchen and they asked who called us. Siad that the son, James was drunk o.k. but was in his bedroom. Door was closed. I opened same and saw him on the bed. He got up and asked his father and mother if they called us and they said No. Wanted to know who called. We then went over to see Megarry and he was out over to Mrs. Howards house on Shrewsbury St. On his return I explained that we could not arrest his brother as he was in his own home and was not disturbing the peace. Explained to him that this is a family problem.
   
Friday, December 11th, 1964
10.50 p.m.
Mrs. Rivers at the Bowling Alley in Jeff. calls that a few minutes ago three young fellows unknown to her came in and caused trouble, and she is suspicious as she has a lot of money to take home. I called No.1 to escort her home. o.k.
11.40 p.m.
Ronald George, on Maple St. calls re: some one apparently knocked at his back door and he is skeptical of B&E. Sent No.1 to check out. I suspect a large icicle dropped off the roof and slammed against the door. The ice is dropping off of our roof right now, large ones and one dropped on the office roof, just now.

9.30 a.m.
Mrs. Clark of Centerwood Drive in re: family troubles. Has no money to buygroceries and he refuses to buy same. I sent her in to see Mr. Kirby at the Probation Office, Central District Court. Kirby called me back and said that the lawyers for both of them were going to get to-gether Monday but that she would have to eat over the week end and to take care of her, which I did. Loaned her $15.00 to ttake care of her and told her to be back here on Monday and to see Mrs. Babb.
   
Monday, December 14th, 1964
7.55 a.m.
Ray Wetherby calls re: B&E&L at the Food Fair. I called in Jas. Oliver. Entrance was gained through the rear door where the meat rail is. They knocked in the board at the top, climbed in and opened the door. They used a pinch bar and left same inside by the rear door on their departure. They cleaned out the cigarette rack and some stocking out of the bin, and a 10 lb. can of Ham. They pried open the deskdrawer with a boning knife and also a steak knife and attempted to open the safe with same also. I called Sgt. David Pendergast of the State Police but he found no fingerprints. Jas. Oliver talked to the various neighbors and the Oslunds heard a crash about 1.30 a.m.
5.15 p.m.
Mrs. Webber of Powers Road complains re: cars block the road up by the Post Office.
7.00 p.m.
Mr. Harris of West Tatnuck Pharmacy, PL 6-4145 calls re: contacting one Mrs. Glyn of 1 Pine Tree Road and have her call him at once due to an error on his part in filling out prescription. McCauley contacted her o.k. and Mr. Glyn talked to me.

12.50 p.m.
Clinic calls to get Mr. Harry Lemire, 406 Princeton St. over the railroad tracks on the left, who as a real bad nose bleed and take him to the Hospital for Dr. Mayo.
1 p.m.
S. Nowak on patrol and out on the above. He failed to find Mrs. Gruber or her car and took Mr. emore o.k. but he was not too bad. He ran around the house o.k. to get into the car and told his wife to pick him up later. Just used us for a taxi. Must remember him.
   
Wednesday, December 16th, 1964
1.30 p.m.
Henry Lemire, 406 Princeton St. calls for car to take him to the Hospital. Told him NO, but you can have the doctor call me if you want. We only used the cruiser for emergency calls and this is not an emergency so far as I can see.
1.40 p.m.
Mrs. Lemire who works at the Worcester County National Bank in Worcester called from Worcester, at work, and I explained that we are not running a taxi service and that we used the cruiser for emergency services only and told her that the other day was most certainly not an emergency (as I had talked to Nowak). Said she had called the hospital and they would not get him. Then she said, Oh well never mind anyway, I will go out and get him myself.
 
Thursday, December 17th, 1964
4.05 p.m.
Bob called from Boston re: being stopped on Rte. 9 by Richard E. Griffith, on radar, Reg. of M.V. Called Troki and found that he lives at 26 Tremont St., Woburn. Bob was going 64 mph in a 40 mph zone. It happened at 1.15 p.m. near the jct. o Rte. 9 and 20. Griffith explained that Bob said nothing until it was all written down. I later go hold of Ed. Harrington Jr. and he will stop in on Friday afternoon. This calls for a 7 day suspension.
6.20 p.m.
John Bartholemeus of 192 Main St. calls re: larcney of 25 Christmas tree bulbs from his tree.
9.50 p.m.
No.1 calls in that they found the rear door in the paint shop at Sunnyside Motor open and also the door that goes into the parts dept. at the main garage. This door they do not know how to close so will await the arrival of D.J.H. Jr.
 
Friday, December 18th, 1964
12.30 p.m.
Call re: accident on Elmwood Ave. Involved S. Nowak and a Mrs. Georgia Jordan of Princeton St. Her little daughter Elizabeth, 3 yrs. old hurt her face on the dash and later the mother took her to the Holden Hospital for examination. Mrs. Jordan said that it was all her fault. She applied her brakes and slid into Nowak who was partially off the road. His rear wheels were way over on his side of the road o.k.

Mrs. Boisseau of Homestead Road calls for me to take her and child to a hospital in Worcester but I had Nancy tell her that this was not legal for me to go out of Holden with the cruiser.
3.30 p.m.
Saw Ed Harrington Jr. re: Bob being stopped yesterday on the ctoff for speeding. We called Boston and Mr. Catalano, of the Registry, Supervisor of Selective Enforcement of Radar teams, said that we would send Bob a WARNING LETTER. Tel. number of Catalano is Extension 291.

Mrs. Gilbert Potter of 32 Meadowood Drive cals re: larceny of a large beautiful wreath from her front door. This one was all decorated with kinds of fruit on same.
 
Sunday, December 20th, 1964
8.00 a.m.
Riordan calls re: last night at 10.15 p.m. on Mill st they came across six kis parked off the rod in a car owned by Dr. Hartsons wife and his sonwas in charge of said car, also present was Mark Davis and Tom Sawyer. Riordan took the beer and put same in my back room. 24 cans of beer. They used 6 cans. Riordan asked the boys where they got the beer and they refused to tell. Told themthat they had better stay there till 12 and to tell their parents. All the parents contacted me. Mrs. Hartson came for the beer.

Kay Buthray calls re:larceny of 25 bulbs off of the Christmas Tree outside, on lawn.

McCauley in re: mental condition of May Boucher of Doyle Rd. He will tip off the State Police of same.

Helen Mirick, (Henry Zottolis) house calls re: larceny of Christmas tree bulbs.
   
Thursday, December 24th, 1964
12.05 a.m.
Fred Aurell, 299 Holden St. calls that his son Stanley, age 16, left home Dec. 22nd and is in Princeton. Refuses to come home. The people with whom he is taying deny that the boy is there. I called No1 and they called Chief O'Connor to investigate and he found the boy and took him to the station. No.1 took the father to Princeton and picked the boy up.
 
Friday, December 25th, 1964
3.45 p.m.
Everett Maynard complains re: some one over in the directionof the main road is using a gas saw. Thinks it could be Bill Lindstrom. Out on same. Maynard thinks that it is wrong to be sawing on Christmas Day. He was out in the barn milking cows. I did not hear that saw at all and stayed in the area for an hour.

Kendall Marsh calls re: larceny of 40 tree bulbs.

Chas. Parmalee calls re: loud speaker of Eleanor Matthew is too loud. Had the cruiser go to the house and tell her as she has an unlisted phone. She called me o.k.

9.45 a.m.
Call from Raymond Hendrickson, driver for the Lincoln Cab Co. tel. 799-0260 re: fare skipped on him last night on Fisher Road. Second house or third on left from end of Fisher Road. Name Sweeney is on mailbox. Wants to know the first name. Address he gave in beginning was 1 Salisbury St. Call him. Hale investigated. No answer when he went to the house.

5.20 p.m.
Mildred Amsden of Princeton St. asked for us to check on Rivers Bowling Alley to-night aout 10 p.m. and to escort her home, also to-morrow night if possible.
11 p.m.
J.C. Oliver talked to Mrs. Marshall, daughter of old Raymond who owns the brick house opposite Deas office in re: one of her tenants who lives in the s.e. apartment facing Clara Bascoms house. His name is James Backley, 41 yrs. old, and he works for a Pizza place in W. Boylston driving a truck delivering to some stores and restaurants. Originally came from Texas but no idea where he lived previous to moving to her house.

12.50 p.m.
Mr. Curtis Peabody in re: friction with the family of Fortin 21 yrs. old wh live in the old Eurbin place. Peabody has no tangible evidence. Suspects him of driving by at night, late, excessive noise and speed.
3 p.m.
Robert Nickerson, d.o.b. 10-21-31 who lives on Woodland Rd and has applied for a taxi operators license in re: same. Lived in Smyrna Mills, Maine for 18 yrs. and then went into the armed services from 7-21-50 to 7-20-53. Was a corporal and rec'd an honorable discharge. Eleanor Perry sister in lw teaches in Paxton and lives there. Her son goes to the backward class at Dawson. Nickerson has three children, 11-9-8.
3.30 p.m.
W. F. Durant calls that Mary is going to the hospital. Gallbladder operation, for one week. Will be operated on Thursday.
9.05 p.m.
Jas. Oliver calls in that Hale wants more men as he really expects a "rumble" after the game with Shrewsbury, and if any Staet Officers in area, ask them to be in readiness. I called in Welsh and Lindfors ad told them to get dressed and report to Jas.Oliver at once.
9.15 p.m.
Called Sgt. Obertuck at S.P. and asked him if he had any available men in the area and he said that he would get them in Barre and send them down right away. After the game was over Jack Oliver came in and reported that a Lieut. Alzapedi, Trooper Ed. O. Hunt, Dadeo, and three other troopers assisted.
